This site is devoted to publishing the results of research into the genealogy of the Leigh Family. While principally devoted to the Leigh family in America it is hoped that our English predecessor families will also eventually contribute to its contents. The Leighs have been in America since the beginning. The first Leigh of whom we have notice was Henry Leigh, Gentleman, who arrived in the Jamestowne Colony aboard the Mary and Margaret, the so called "Second Supply" which came to Jamestowne in 1608. Leighs were here when the trading ship Tristram and Jane made trading stops at colony settlements in 1637, as both a "planter" named Leigh and his wife made purchases from her cargo. Also in her cargo was a Thomas Purser, indentured servant, who was probably the first of the Purser family to arrive in the new world. The ability to track family continuity in the New World probably begins with Colonel William Leigh, born in 1654. Notable accessions to the Leigh family tree have occurred over the years. This is very much a work in progress and the end is not near. We welcome contributions from Leighs everywhere. Anyone can make comments on any page contained herein.
